Vrata Valey

The Vrata Valley, from the heart of the Julian Alps, leads to the foot of the Triglav North Face, the northern wall of Triglav — Slovenia’s highest peak.

It is the largest glacially transformed valley on the northern side of the Julian Alps, stretching from Mojstrana to the base of the northern wall. On the way, you first reach two waterfalls collectively known as Peričnik. From Peričnik, the trail to Vrata leads under the “Galleries”. The Galleries are hollowed‑out and partly overhanging conglomerate rock formations carved and undercut by a stream that today flows far below.

You can visit Vrata even if you are not a mountaineer or alpinist. You can reach the valley from Mojstrana by a gravel road, partly asphalted, or you can walk there along the Triglav Bistrica Trail.

Aljaž Lodge in Vrata is the starting point for hikes and mountain tours to Triglav, Škrlatica, Stenar, the Križ Plateau, and more.
