A Beauty by the Mountain Stream
Zgornja Radovna lies within the area of the Triglav National Park, along the Radovna stream, into which waters from the glacial valleys of Krma and Kot flow. The valley is nestled between the slopes of the Pokljuka and Mežakla plateaus, covered with hummocky meadows filled with blossoms in spring and summer. Farmsteads are scattered throughout the valley, making even a simple walk through Radovna a unique experience.
Visit the Gogala homestead, where a more than four-hundred‑year‑old linden tree stands. Continue to the Pocar Homestead, which has been transformed into an ethnographic museum with frescoes and authentic interior furnishings. Next to the Psnak homestead, you can see a well‑preserved Psnak apiary, and further down the valley are the Psnak sawmill and mill.
If you still have enough energy after this walk, you can set off on a wonderful trip into the Julian Alps — nowhere else will you be this close to them.
The old linden tree tells stories from long ago…
Hummocky Meadows
Meadows like waves of the sea
Hummocky meadows are a geomorphological phenomenon from the glacial period, impossible to overlook when visiting the Radovna, Kot, Krma, or Vrata valleys, as well as the areas of Bohinj, Pokljuka, and the Soča region.
In Radovna, hummocky meadows remain only on individual plots, as they are increasingly levelled to make machine mowing easier. Thus, hummocky meadows survive only where mowing has long been done solely by hand — a practice still maintained at the Pocar Homestead.
