Bike track D-2 Jureta Robiča

Its official name is the Jure Robič Cycling Route, and it is already well known as the best, most famous, and longest cycling route in the Gorenjska region. It is marked with the official designation D‑2.

The route runs from Jesenice to the border crossing in Rateče, with a total length of approximately 28 km. From there, you can continue into Italy toward Tarvisio, passing through Camporosso to Pontebba, or you can turn left immediately after the border and follow the path leading to the beautiful Lago di Fusine (Belopeška jezera). The cycling path follows the former railway line, which was closed in 1966. From Mojstrana, the route gently climbs up the Upper Sava Valley, gaining 255 metres of elevation by the time you reach Rateče. Along the way, it offers stunning views of the surrounding valley as well as several well‑maintained rest areas, some of which offer food and drinks.

The trip begins at the parking area in front of the Slovenian Alpine Museum. Continue toward the village of Dovje, and at the main crossroads in Mojstrana, turn left — 600 m from the starting point. Ride past the Triglav Grove park (a gravel road), then continue over the blue bridge spanning the Sava Dolinka River. After a short ascent, turn left onto the paved cycling path marked D‑2.

Continue past the cycling rest station (Wi‑Fi point, “Sonček” stop) toward Kranjska Gora. Stay on the cycling path the entire time. On the way to Kranjska Gora, you will cross three bridges over the Sava Dolinka River and pass several smaller rest areas. Once you reach Kranjska Gora, the cycling path joins the road. The road first leads past the cemetery, then over a bridge crossing the Pišnica River. After the bridge, turn left at 13.3 km and follow the main road leading toward Vršič. Ride past the Best Western Kranjska Gora hotel, climb slightly, and soon you will arrive at Lake Jasna — 14.5 km, 827 m.

From Jasna, descend back toward Kranjska Gora, riding again past the Best Western Kranjska Gora hotel, where you turn into the town centre. Continue in the direction of Rateče past the ski slopes — 16.1 km — where you rejoin the cycling path. This section is wider than the first part and gradually ascends. In Podkoren, you ride past the Alpine Ski World Cup venue and continue past the last ski lifts. On the right is the walking path to Zelenci, which you can also visit on this cycling tour.

In Rateče, just past the former railway station (a large ochre‑coloured building on the right), turn right toward the village of Rateče — 20.6 km. Cross the main road leading to Italy and join the road through the village. Cross the main square and turn right after the Šurc Inn — 21.8 km — toward the state border with Italy. After 700 m, you reach the border — 22.5 km, 847 m. Cross the main road and join the cycling path on the opposite side.

At the crossroads, turn back toward Kranjska Gora. At the next crossroads (with the intermittent Lake Ledine on the left), turn right onto the road toward the Planica Valley — 24.3 km — and ascend to the Planica Nordic Centre. The ski‑jumping area is on the right and the cross‑country skiing area on the left. The ascent ends at the Olympic Sports Centre Planica — 26.1 km, 934 m.

From the sports centre, ride back 200 m to the crossroads, turn right, and descend to the junction with the cycling path. Turn right here — 27.7 km — and follow the cycling path back to your starting point in Mojstrana — 47.7 km in total.
