The Krnica hut is located in the heart of the Krnica Alpine valley. The hut, which is surrounded by a belt of forest, offers a beautiful view, especially to the east, where we can see the Malo and Veliko Martuljška Ponca, Oltar, Škrlatica, Rakovo špica, Rogljica and Dovški Gamsovec. On the other side, the view is partially obstructed by the nearby forest.

Starting Point
From Kranjska Gora, head toward Bovec (or the Vršič Pass). Drive past Lake Jasna and park by the road before it turns right, crosses the Velika Pišnica stream again, and begins to climb more steeply (approx. 860 m).
Route Description
Before the bridge over the Velika Pišnica, continue straight along the wide path on the right bank of the stream. Stay on the path, and with a gentle ascent reach the Krnica Hut after about one hour of walking.
Continue straight through the valley (signpost for Križ), first through forest and later through dwarf pine. The initially wide valley with views of Razor and Prisojnik slowly narrows, soon surrounding you on three sides with vertical walls. On the left, the view is closed by the Škrlatica group; on the right stands Prisojnik; ahead, the Kriška stena remains hidden.
Where the valley becomes steeper, avalanches are common. Be careful! The higher you climb, the more the massive Kriška stena rises before your eyes, until you eventually enter a snowy amphitheatre, where the only exit is the direction of ascent.
Option
If you wish to shorten the approach slightly, drive from Kranjska Gora toward the Vršič Pass up to hairpin turn number 3. Park here (“Parking 2” on GPS track) and turn left downhill onto the marked path just before the turn. Cross the stream and a large meadow (Planina v Klinu), and soon join the marked trail that leads to the Krnica Hut. Continue as described above.
