In the Slovenian Alpine Museum, the past and the present go hand in hand. A rich collection of objects with diverse historical narratives, a wide range of photographic and archival material, and an extensive specialist library offer insight into the breadth and importance of mountaineering activities in the Slovenian landscape.
The collected objects, documents, photographs, events, phenomena, and stories have been woven into a narrative about the historical development of mountaineering in Slovenia. We have connected this story with the present day through modern audio‑visual tools and engaging additions to individual thematic sections.
The introductory film Svetlobe gora (Lights of the Mountains) showcases the beauty of the Slovenian landscape and raises awareness of the diversity and richness of the natural, cultural, and historical heritage of our mountainous world. The film also serves as an invitation to visit the museum and our mountain environment.
The exhibition is partly adapted for the blind and visually impaired, and it is complemented by a varied programme of educational workshops, temporary exhibitions, and numerous events.
Temporary exhibitions accompany the Slovenian Alpine Museum’s permanent exhibition, enriching and complementing the existing display.
