Alpe Adria Trail

From the Glacier to the Sea

Hiking Through a Garden of Paradise

From Großglockner to Muggia – Welcome to the Alpe Adria Trail

The Alpe Adria Trail, spanning 43 stages and approximately 750 km, connects three regions: Carinthia in Austria, Slovenia, and Friuli–Venezia Giulia in Italy.
The hiking trail leads from the foot of Austria’s highest mountain, Großglockner, through Carinthia’s most beautiful mountain and lake landscapes, and—without major detours—past the tri-border point of Austria, Slovenia, and Italy, continuing on to the Adriatic coast and the town of Muggia.

The Alpe Adria Trail focuses on enjoyment. It mostly runs outside the Alpine highlands and with minimal elevation differences. The stages are about 20 km long, require roughly 6 hours of walking, and are uniformly marked with signs. Each stage follows a designated route that can be hiked in both directions. It offers an attractive culinary excursion and ends in a location with suitable accommodation options.

The Alpe Adria Trail follows existing hiking paths, connects them, and ensures high trail quality. On every stage, there are numerous distinctive landmarks that influence the hiking rhythm. In the future, each stage will also include at least one “magical place,” a special spot where the four elements are in harmony. These places already exist and are perceived as “jewels of the landscape.” They invite hikers to pause—not just to look at the landscape, but to truly feel it.
